WHalloween fun factW
So back in the day, Pagans used to burn jack-o-lanterns on Samhain to ward off evil spirits. Samhain, being on the night of the 31 of October. Not to name names, but cultures, religions plunked other holidays, such as Halloween on top of Pagan holidays to crowd out and overshadow Pagan celebrations. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Christmas and Halloween, but come on dudes, that’s mean. Anyways, if you are interested in a little history of the jack-o-lantern, Better Homes and Gardens has a very interesting (and short) article.
How do you like to decorate for Halloween?
Hey I'm really feeling more and more that 'halloween feeling' in the air, especially when I check out your fun halloween posts. I love your tidbits of historical pagan info too, it's really interesting where all this came from--it's not all just a modern commercial ploy. I'm also wondering about those candied apples (there's at least one in the group anyway!)...what the heck is that black stuff? or maybe it's better to let the spooks give those a try...*S* Those are creepy skeleton table decorations too! Britt, you make me want to go carve a pumpkin right now! Think I could get my cat to sit still long enough to pose for me? *W*
ReplyDeleteOh I love that first image. Martha is genius.
